Welcome to my writing blog, “Existential Conversations.” Here you will find a collection of my latest articles, projects, & books.
My writing arose out of a desire to understand the human condition, to explore those questions that go right to the heart of what it means to be human, what I call the existential dimension to life. Hence, the articles are referred to as “existential conversations.” My writing also involves an examination and critique of common societal themes, current social trends, and everyday beliefs & habits.
Writing has proven to be a constant companion throughout my life’s journey. Whether it was writing poetry for the woman I loved, reflecting on my personal psychology, or exploring paradoxes regarding the human condition, I have always felt a deep and abiding relationship with the written word. It was writing that helped propel me towards an inner journey of self-discovery, asking questions about life, love, and relationships, both my relationship with others as well as myself.
My writing is a blend of analytical exploration, human examination, and personal experience that touches on topics ranging from philosophy and psychology, to love and religion. More recently I have also been writing on education. The thread running through my writing is the search for wisdom, and a desire to connect with life at its deepest and most powerful level, whether through love and relationships, or through the everyday experiences that constitute life in the living world. Through my writing I hope to aid others in finding peace, a peace that allows a person to connect with and marvel at everyday life instead of finding ways to escape it.
My name is Mark Herbert Zimmermann. I am a writer, author, teacher, poet, philosophy guide, stillness practioner & world traveler. Originally from Buffalo, NY, I have been in and out of my hometown since I was 18. I currently reside in Tampa, Florida. I am a Marine Corps veteran with a Bachelors degree in philosophy from the University at Buffalo and a Masters degree in Counseling Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute.
My first book, And Let It Remain: A Collection of Prose, was published in February 2019 and is available through Amazon. This book involves a collection of short stories and observations that are all independent from one another; many deal with philosophy, love and relationships, and the meaning of life. My second book, Love Poems, a book of poetry, was published in 2020.
In 2021 I published my third book, The Search for Wisdom: A Reflection on Everyday Habits and Expressions. This book explores wisdom and what it means to be wise through looking at the kinds of everyday habits and tendencies that most of us take for granted. The book argues that cultivating wisdom is the real goal of life, a goal that allows the individual to find peace and contentment, instead of the fleetingness of happiness.
